Section Modulus
In his site-specific installation for the Volksbank Hildesheim, Hinrich Gross attempts to take hold of the static balance and hermetic appearance of the 1970s building. For the capture, he projects visual material of the given object. In doing so, the geometry of the building opposes its section modulus – a term from the science of strength of materials.
Approximately the same pictorial information leads here to interferences, which are fed by the difference in materiality. Realities of different layers are shifted over each other in an irritating way. The immaterial power of light deconstructs the octagonal appearing volume of the exposed concrete building and leads in the interweaving with the materiality of the facades to amazing visual disturbances – additionally taken away by a sound design by Michael Terbuyken.
